Well, I didn’t get to post last week because we didn’t have any power! The ice storm hit us week ago last Fri. and our power went out and was out for a week! We got it back on Fri. am. My daughter, Karen, who lives here in the city still doesn’t have power as of this morning. They have a generator, so that helps a little. We have a gas cooking stove and hot water heater, so we stayed fairly warm and could take showers. We were a lot better off than so many others that had to go to shelters or stay with friends or family. So basically, we just couldn’t see at night. We have a couple of oil lanterns and lots of candles that helped us out there but it wasn’t enough light to read or knit by without putting a strain on my eyes, so I had to do that during the day.
Speaking of knitting, I got the other sock done and the little purse that I was going to felt. I did washing Thurs. before our power went off Fri., thank goodness. Anyway, I got the purse felted and I was happy with the way it turned out! I hope to figure out how to get pictures on here soon and then I can show you what they looked like.
I bought some pretty yarn on sale right after Christmas at Hobby Lobby called Symphony by Red Heart. The color is River Blue. Blue is my favorite color! I’ve been wanting to make myself another sweater from a pattern I used once before from an old McCall’s Needwork and Crafts magazine. It’s just a simple v-neck pullover–a classic. It’s a knitting worsted size yarn, but it doesn’t seem to be that big to me. I’m using size 2 and 4 needles to make it and the gauge is working out perfect but it’s going to take some time to knit. Also, it’s a fuzzy type of yarn, so that, combined with the small needles, will take me a while indeed. Anyway, I’m about a third of the way up the back now. I tend to get a little obsessed with a new project and spend wayyyyy too much time on it. Then I burn myself out and it becomes yet another UFO.
I haven’t made a sweater (for anyone) in a looooong time. I used to make a couple of sweaters every year for many years. I finally had to give some away because I didn’t have room for all of them. I love making sweaters and I don’t know why I got away from it. I guess I was getting into a lot of other things and put the sweater-making on the back burner.
Because this sweater will take a while, I’ll probably do some other things at the same time. I NEED to finish some of my UFO’s. Usually after Christmas, I’ll take inventory of UFO’s and make a list of the items I would like to finish to enter into the local Fair that will be held this summer. That gives me the motivation to get some of them done. It usually works!
Keep those needles clicking! Until next time, Barb
