Week 38

By barb56

This is the most fun time of the year for me. It’s Fall and one of the best things about Fall is the Festivals that spring up all around the area. I wish I could go to all of them, but I’d have to quit my job to be able to do that. I DID go to one this weekend, however.

                                                                   Music at the Millfairgrove4.jpg

It was at Fairgrove just north of here. They had games and horse rides for the kiddies, hundreds of craft booths, lots and lots of great food, live music, tractor pulls, etc. Literally, something for everyone!

I had to go after work, but I got off an hour early. I still had about five hours to enjoy everything. I had to go by myself which wasn’t as much fun as going with someone to share oohs and ahhs with while looking at all the crafts, laugh together watching the kids dig through the bales of hay for prizes, and eat some of that fantastic food with. But I still had a good time watching everyone else do all that and looking at all the crafts.

So much food, not enough room to eat! fairgrove2.jpg

                                           People, people everywhere! fairgrove3.jpg

I’ll be going to another one in Ozark this Sat. It’ll be the same thing, even a lot of the same craft vendors will be at this one that was at the Fairgrove one, but that won’t stop me! The weekend after that is the Mt. Vernon Apple-butter Makin’ Days. It’s one of the biggest festivals in this area. The air smells of apple-butter being cooked along with all the other smells of wood burning, food cooking, candles burning, etc.

But the biggest and best of all the Festivals will be the ones going on in Ark. the weekend of Oct. 20 and 21. In fact, there are so many going on then, that the festivals start on Wed. the 17th and last all the way through Sun. I’ve taken off work every year for the last eight years to go to Ark. for these events. Usually one or both of my daughters go with me. Last year, I took my sister. We have the time of our lives! We manage to go to at least three of the many festivals going on at this time every year. We get there as soon as they open the gates and stay till they close them. I come home with the car bulging from all of our purchases. I’ll be talking about them as the weeks go by.

Speaking of festivals, I’ve signed up to be in a festival this fall. It’s at a church and not one of the bigger festivals, but it’ll be big enough for me. I don’t have a lot of craft inventory, so I should get myself into gear and do some creating.

I’ve been getting into the painting mood lately. I spent one day in the shop out back just base-coating a bunch of jars.

Look closely, you can see I’m wearing my “painting” pants. meinshopoutback.jpg

I think I enjoy painting on jars more than anything else. The jars need to “season” after they’ve been base-coated before they can be painted on. It takes a couple of days for them to “season” to perfection. Next I’ll go through my ever-growing pattern books, pick out something to paint on the jars, and then the fun part starts! I like to get several going at once. By doing that, I can go back and forth working on one as the paint is drying on another one, etc. The bonus being that when I get done, I have several done all at once!

A friend at work wanted me to make her a scarf out of some new yarn that the fabric department got in to replace some deleted yarn. The yarn is Softee Chunky by Bernat. It turned out so pretty that I bought some of the same yarn in a different color and made another scarf. I’m thinking this second one will be a gift, but I can’t say for whom because she may read my blog. Anyway, didn’t they turn out pretty?

I’m still working on the lap afghan that I started last week. It seems to be going very s l  o w. I’m on the fourth skein out of seven. I’m not working on it like I did in the beginning. Oh no, I hope this doesn’t turn into another UFO! I wonder how many of the projects I’ve started since the beginning of this year that I’ve blogged about that are now UFO’s. I’ll have to go back through all of these blogs one of these days just to find out. I’ll probably be ashamed of myself if I do. But maybe that would be a good thing. Maybe that would give me the motivation to get them out and finish them!!!

Well, on that note, I’d better get into the sewing room or out to the shop and get these fingers busy! Have a great week, and make something and tell me about it!!
