Several nice things happened this week. Our anniversary was Tues. It’s been 43 years ago that we got married. I remember thinking right after our wedding that one of these days way into the future we would celebrate our 50th anniversary. Wow, it’s not so far away now!
We had a nice day in spite of the fact that we both had to work. I got off at 5:00 and since Hubby works at home, he got off at the same time. We went out to eat. We were going to go to Cheddar’s, a nice place Daughter #1 took me for my birthday. I liked it so much that I commented this would be a good place to go for our anniversary. She told me that it’s usually very busy, so I called to make a reservation. The lady told me that we should be able to get in at 6:00 because it doesn’t usually get really busy until later, so she didn’t make a reservation for me.
I think she was new because when we got there, we couldn’t even find a place in the parking lot!! Hubby isn’t one to wait around, so we chose to go next door to the Golden Corral. It’s a buffet-type, so we didn’t have to wait, had oodles and oodles of food to pick from, and could go back for more. Their dessert bar was out of this world! We’ll definitely go back there!
After we ate, we had some time to kill before our movie started so we went to Best Buy. I’ve been carrying around a couple of gift cards that Hubby got as gifts for various special days. He doesn’t spend money easily, so I’ve had them for a couple of years. Today we were going to spend them. First he looked at software, but couldn’t find anything he really “needed”. So I suggested some movies. We were passing the tv shows on DVD section, and he spied “The X-files”. We wound up buying the first season. He wants to start collecting all the seasons. (Hint, hint, to anyone who may need gift ideas for Dad. They’re kind of expensive, so you all may have to get together on this idea.)
We went to the movie after we left Best Buy. We saw “The Heartbreak Kid” with Ben Stiller. Very funny movie, but it’s R rated for a reason. Not one for the kids! I loved the ending!
After we got home, we watched the first, of many I’m sure, ”X-files” shows. We had a nice anniversary. He’s still my best friend after all these years. He still makes me laugh and feel like a teenager. I love ya, Sweetie!
Another fun thing that happened this week was the Mt. Vernon Apple Butter Makin’ Days. The best part for me was that Daughter #1 and her two boys went with me.
We, I had a great time. I got to see and be with two of the grandsons. I love opportunities like that! You see… they are all growing up so fast, and the four oldest are teens or pre-teens now. Soon, they won’t have anything to do with their grandma.
I wanted to buy them both something from the crafts, but only the youngest one wanted something.
He got a pocket watch made out of wood with an attached chain. (He said that he’s always wanted one! I had to smile.)
Having some lunch with the bunch.
After they bought a jar of Apple Butter, they went on home. I stayed a while longer and looked at the crafts some more. We didn’t get to look that good while they were with me because I didn’t want to TOTALLY bore the boys to death! I bought a couple of things that might wind up being gifts for birthdays or Christmas. Of course I bought a jar of Apple Butter for Hubby.
Thanks for going with me, K. I like it when you humor your ol’ Ma.
I got the lap afghan done! It turned out pretty. I think Sis will like it.
And the other special thing this week was lunch with my friend Carolyn again. She asked me how my quilt was coming along. I was a little embarrassed to say that I haven’t been working on it. We talked about quilting enough to get me excited about sewing again.
The next day I got out my quilt blocks and instuctions and started reading how to cut the sashing and border pieces. It took me a while to figure out which fabric pieces I got for what borders. I got a little frustrated, but I stuck with it. Finally, I got the mat and cutter out and started cutting the sashing and the triangles to make the corner blocks. I’ve been afraid to start cutting for fear of cutting it wrong. I got all the triangles cut, they turned out perfect and neat, and then I realized that I had cut them all one-inch smaller than they were supposed to be! Aaaaah! So much for my phobia! Luckily, I had bought extra fabric, so I re-cut them correctly this time. (It’s like I’ve never learned to read a ruler!)
I think I’ll sew the sashing and corner blocks to the rest of the quilt before I cut the borders. I’m putting it on hold again, though, because next week, Daughter #2 and I will be going to Ark.! We’ll take lots of pictures and have lots to tell next week. Hope the weather holds out.
Till next time, keep those fingers busy!

WE had a great time, mom. I’m just sorry we pooped out before you did.
Have fun in Arkansas! I can’t wait to hear how your “craftin’” went! Drive safely.
