SUMMER’S ALMOST GONE

By barb56

I’ve been neglecting my blog. Sorry about that. I can’t seem to get used to these hours at work that I have to work ALL the time. About the time I do get used to them, they’ll change though. Gosh, I hope so — I’ve got to have some relief!!

The Fair came and went and I didn’t even blog about it. Maybe I can catch you up a little.

I entered 16 craft items this year. I know, I know, it’s not much compared to what I entered last year, but I was even surprised to have that much. I was running around here trying to find just anything to enter. It wasn’t in vain, however, because I won 13 ribbons!

Not bad, I thought. I even got a blue ribbon on something I made at the last minute. It was a plant poke that I made from a popcicle stick and a heart-shaped piece of wood. I painted it all white, painted “rose” along the stick and painted a butterfly on the heart. It was cute, I have to admit.

The Fair had a lot of Special Contests mostly in the Foods catagories this year. I entered so many of them that I got to go to the Fair almost every day. Let me explain: The Special Contests are held during the Fair, so you bring your entry and then get to watch the judging.

Judging pies

It’s so much fun! Usually I just enter pies and quick breads. But I also entered these contests — Grandparents’ Cookie, Weird Chocolate Cake, Party Time (cheese ball), and Coffee Time (baked goods, drink, and other food made with coffee). I did more baking and cooking than I’ve done in a loong time! In fact, I wore myself out and decided to drop out of the coffee contest because I was just too tired! But I got a lot of ribbons for my baking attempts:

Hubby and I went to the Fair and did our usual thing: rode the Ferris Wheel. Hey, it’s traditional!

Daughter #1 and I took the boys to the Fair and left them to “play” on their own. I think they enjoyed the freedom from their parents for a while. They said they had a good time and even came away with some Fair goodies.

I think school starts in about a week. I’m sure the boys are looking forward to that. (NOT) Grandson # 5 will be going to pre-school this year and I’m pretty sure he’s looking forward to that for sure. They sure grow up fast!

I’m on vacation this week so I need to go to the sewing room now and get busy! Keep those fingers
