Monday Morning Meme

1. You have just been hired to clean your own home, what is your first complaint?

There’s too much junk around here! I can’t clean with all this junk! I  need to throw all this away!

2. Are you able to ignore a ringing telephone? How often do you allow a ringing phone to go to voice mail? Do you answer your cell phone, out in public, every time it rings? Or do you silence it and get back to it when you’re in a more private area? How often would you say you’re on your home phone? Your cell phone? Do you like talking on the phone or do you view it as a necessary communication tool?

My first instinct is to answer. Old habits, you know. I’ll allow the machine to pick it up only because Hubby is around. I answer the cell phone when I’m out. I don’t know how to silence it and I have a hard time trying to retrieve it later. (I’m not very cell-phone friendly.) I rarely talk on the phone either at home or out. I don’t mind talking on the phone, I just don’t have anyone to talk to. I’ve been known, at times, to talk several hours at a time to a good friend, sister, or daughter, however.

3. When did you last go for a bike ride? Do you own a bike? Do you encourage your children to ride bikes? Given the most popular New Year’s resolution of losing weight, would you consider putting bicycle riding as one of your exercise options? Why or why not?

Keeping in mind that I’m 62, it’s been a long time since I’ve been on a bike. I don’t own a bike, but I’d like to. I’ve been mentioning to Hubby lately that it would be a fun way for us both to get some excercise. I’d love to go bicycling. I’m a physical person and also love to be outside on a beautiful day!

4. If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sorts of memories does the smell evoke?

Cedar–reminds me of my childhood Christmases. We always cut a cedar tree off the land that belonged to my oldest sister and her husband to use as a Christmas tree. We (my sister and brother and me) would have to decorate it and get stuck by the needles. But we were very proud of our tree every year and the smell it brought to the house during that very special time of year.

baby powder–always reminds me of the first few days after bringing one of our new babies home from the hospital.  The newness of it all. Very special memories!

cattle manure–soooo reminds me of the visits to my aunt’s farm when I was a young girl. We made the trip almost every weekend. It was about a 30-min. drive, but more like an hour when I was young. I don’t know if it just felt  like it was an hour or if it actually took an hour in our old car. I loved going to the farm. There was soooo much to see and do there. She had milk cows so the smell of manure was always there. There was soooo much to see and do.  Lots of land to roam and a big barn to explore. I loved to play in the grain bin right after she had fresh grain delivered for the cows. I guess that would be another smell that would bring back memories if I had a chance to smell it. Grandma’s biscuits baking — well, I could go on and on, but the farm has a lot of memories for me.
