Work, work, work!

March 13, 2008

This was written two weeks ago:

Our new store is coming along — slow but sure. I say slow, but actually I think they’re right on schedule. We’re supposed to take possession in the middle of May. We’ll be very busy moving merchandise from one store to the other for a month or so.

We’re getting geared to start hiring big time in the next few weeks. Our store has around 135 associates right now. We’re supposed to have between 400 and 500 for the supercenter. That’s a lot of hiring!!

Fifteen associates have been selected to be sponsors to all these new people that have already started being hired. I’ve been one of those “lucky” ones. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it will be nice to work with the new people, to get to know them personally and show them the right way to do the things that they’re hired to do. On the other hand, it’s going to be a very big, serious project. AND time-consuming. We’ve already had a couple of meetings on how to do the training and how to follow the book. Yes, a book divided into twelve sections. One section for each week of the training period. I wonder how we’re going to accomplish this hugh task and still do our own jobs. Time will tell. Maybe it won’t be so over-whelming as it appears like it might be. I’ll keep you posted.

I’ve done a lot of knitting on the black & white afghan this week. I decided it wasn’t getting very far just being knit on during  my lunch hour. So on my day off I spent several hours working on it. I’ve finished another vertical strip as well as two of the horizontal strips. I’m now working on the last two strips!! Then I’ll weave in all the ends, block it, and sew the strips together. Still a lot of work to be done, but it looks like I’ve accomplished something on it now.

Winter is back! We had several inches of snow overnight.

It’s not as bad as they were predicting, and I don’t think it will last long. It’s supposed to get above freezing today. But Spring is about two weeks from now!! This is typical for the Midwest, however. Some of our biggest snowfalls have been in March. Thankfully, though, they don’t usually stick around long. I have to admit that it is beautiful!

We had some gorgeous weather over the weekend. It was close to 70 degrees Sat. and Sun.! That motivated me to start some Spring cleaning. I didn’t get far, however, because I started in the sewing room. (It doesn’t take much to get me side-tracked, especially when I’m around my crafts.) Needless to say, I didn’t get too far with the cleaning, but I did find some “new” crafts that I’d forgotten that I had! Do I need to say it? Yes, I started another project!

It’s another knitted bunny. This one is made with a different pattern from the little bunnies I made for Karen’s blog. I’m using the left-over yarn I had from the knitted squares baby afghan that I made last year:

Block Baby Afghan

The pattern for the bunny is in the same “Knitting Circle” magazine that the afghan was in. I guess they’re supposed to “go together”, which they will when I give them away to a friend who’s having a baby. I don’t know anyone right at the moment, but I hear all the time of someone at work getting pregnant. (I hope there isn’t something in the water!!  Oh well, I’m immune to it anyway, so why am I worried?)

Back to the bunny. It’s all different colors. The head is white, the arms another color, the legs, another and the ears, yet another. It will be colorful and different. It’s really cute in the picture, so I hope it turns out as cute.

I’m up to the present now. I don’t know what happened that I didn’t get the previous entry published. Anyway, I’d better get on with it!

This last week has been a little slow as far as crafts go. I have the afghan almost off the needles. Then the strips will have to be sewed together and it will be done! That’s about all I’ve been working on.

I started cleaning up the sewing room. It took two evenings after work! Yes, it was pretty messy. I couldn’t even walk around in there! I need to stay away from the crafts for a couple of weeks and get the rest of the house cleaned up. Easter is just around the corner and I’m hoping that the kids will get to be here for a visit. The four older boys are almost too old for egg hunting, but they will do it to please their ol’ granny if I put money in the eggs! 🙂 The two younger ones, however, still have a lot of egg hunts ahead of them.

I’ve been working a lot the last couple of weeks. Filling in for vacations! It’s a bummer–until I get my paycheck. Then I’m happy! I have a vacation coming in another week and I’m certainly looking forward to that. I say it’s about time!!

In the meantime, I’ll be picking up the knitting in the evenings while I watch a little tv because then I won’t be picking up snacks to eat. Need to lose a little of this winter stash I’ve put on around the middle!

Keep those fingers flying until next time!
