Room Update

November 30, 2010

The electrician is here today. He’s putting in a couple of new outlets and will move our light from the old middle-of-the-room to the new middle-of-the-room.

We’ve also had some of the soffit done, which they matched with the rest of the house pretty good. They were concerned that it might not match exactly.

The next time they came, they put up some insulation where the siding will go.

Then they put up the siding on their next visit,

We’ve had a little rain a couple of days, but for the most part, the weather has been pretty cooperative. Is it just me, or does it seem like this little construction job is taking an awfully long time? The workers are only here a couple of hours each time. I guess I’m just getting impatient wishing I could get all this stuff put back in its place. I really hate all this disorder.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

November 25, 2010

This is “Turkey Day” as a lot of people refer to it. But I still like to call it what it is — Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for this year. Even on a day like this, cold and with freezing rain, (we really did need the rain), being by ourselves, (all our kids and family are doing their own thing with their other family members), and a house all upside down from construction, (which it’s beginning to seem like it’s going to be this way forever), we still have many blessings to count.

God has been good to us. I could list everything, but this blog would be the longest blog in history! I try to remember to thank God every day for all our blessings, and not wait for the one day out of the year that is set aside to give thanks.

Hubby has been wading through our stacks and stacks of home videos and voice cassettes tapes that we’ve accumulated through the years. He’s been converting them into a digital format to help preserve them longer. It’s been a huge project because we’re both big on archiving our lives in pictures and videos.

We’ve watched our families grow and expand, jogged memories of little things that we thought we’d forgotten, and re-lived family get-togethers. Oh, how I miss those get-togethers! Family has always been a big part of my life. I’m so very thankful that we had the foresight to document all these events in our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy the food, the family, and be thankful!

Soffits Are Here!

November 24, 2010

The soffits finally arrived. The workmen got some of it up yesterday.

It looks like rain today and tomorrow. And Thurs. is Thanksgiving with Friday usually being part of a four-day holiday for most people. So we don’t see the workmen coming any more this week.

Well, the weather has been pretty cooperative with us so far this fall. But it’s bound to come around and start acting like winter one of these days. I just wish they could hurry up and get the outside work done. Then the inside work wouldn’t be much of a problem even if the weather does decide to start acting like the time of year that it’s supposed to be.

I guess I’m just being impatient again.

Break Through

November 18, 2010

The workers broke through the inner wall yesterday.

It’s looking like one large room now. Oh My Gosh! It’s so big!

They also brought the new window and put that in.

They got the closet framed which is on the south side of the room.

It’s going to be eight feet wide! I won’t have to fight my clothes back just to get a piece of clothing that I just have to wear that day. I’ll have a lot of storage in this closet also.

So far today the workers haven’t showed up. I’m not sure what the hold up is unless they went after the soffit. They didn’t want to break through the wall until the soffit was up and the room sealed. But Hubby told them to go ahead and do what they have to do. We have a door on the bedroom that we can shut. We put old towels over the register openings in the bedroom and used another one under the door to keep out the cold. The temp got down to almost freezing last night, so I’m glad we did that.

I sure hope they can get that room sealed up soon!
