The Calm After The Storm

July 28, 2015

I love the first several days after I get all my craft items to the Fair for the judging. Well, after I clean up my sewing room anyway. Because, in making or finishing all the items, my sewing room is really a mess.

But after I get the room cleaned up again,

it’s like a breath of fresh air. BTW, all the stuff in the bottom right of the picture on the bottom? Yeah, they’re UFO’s. But organized UFO’s!

All Packed And Ready To Go

July 25, 2015

The doll is finished,

everything has been tagged and is packed and ready to go to the Fair,

I’ll be running it down there this morning. Frankly, I’m glad to be getting rid of it. It’s all been sitting on the kitchen table for a couple of weeks as I added to the pile and it looked so cluttered!

The Fair starts this Thurs. I have my flip-flops ready to take on Thurs. for the special contest, then I can walk around and look at all the pretties! My favorite part of the Fair! It never ceases to amaze me to see other people’s talents.

The only other craft items I have to take to the Fair will be the “It’s in the Bag” contest which isn’t held until the last day of the Fair. I have two bags entered, but only one finished. Sis will help me next week with an idea of how to decorate a bag that I bought for this occasion.

And of course there’s all the baking that I’ve entered that will have to be taken to the Fair to be judged. So I’ll be making a few more trips to the Fair for all of those.

Yep, I’m getting kind of excited about the Fair coming to town again.

Almost There

July 22, 2015

The two afghans have been sewed together and lightly blocked again,

AND the penguin is finished.

Here’s another view that shows his wings a little better,

Oh, BTW here’s what I did with the scarecrow and all the little pumpkin jack-o-lanterns that I painted. I wanted to put them all in the Fair, but I had to come up with an idea to enter all of them.

One more item to finish and then I’ll be heading off to the fairgrounds this Sat. to take all my pretties to be judged. The Fair starts next Thurs.!

The Tags Are Here!

July 17, 2015

Ok, I’m beginning to get excited about the Fair coming to town. The tags for my exhibits came in the mail and it’s beginning to seem real to me again.

I’ve been working like crazy to get the two afghans finished. The baby afghan has been sewn together and just needs the border  in white crocheted around it.

All the blocks for the sampler afghan have finally been finished. It’s just waiting to be sewn together.

The last two items that need to be made are the Toys for Tots projects. At least I know what I’m going to make. In fact, I’ve started the stuffed penguin. I’ve been working on him when we take our breaks at the Family Center. The other toy is a doll that I will make from fabric and sew together. As soon as these afghans are finished, I’ll have to put myself into full gear and work on both of these toys.

Only a week to go before I take them to the Fair!

My Fingers Have Been Flying

July 10, 2015

As I mentioned in the previous blog entry, I’m entering 29 items into the Fair this year. Six of the items are baked goods that will be made and judged during the Fair. The rest are my craft projects and handwork. Believe it or not, the nine craft projects are finished and waiting for the tags to be put on after they arrive in the mail.

Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the handwork projects. It wouldn’t be Fair-time if I didn’t have to rush around the last few weeks trying to finish up some projects. 🙂  That’s good for me in a way because it motivates me to finish some UFO’s that’s been pushed to the back burner for way too long!

This UFO was finished a few days ago,

One of the projects that I’ve been working on furiously for the last few weeks is the sampler afghan that I started in Jan.?! I can’t believe it’s been that long ago! I had five blocks finished and blocked and five more finished waiting to be blocked. That meant that I still had ten more to make, block, and then sew all of them together! — before the 25th when I have to take them to the Fairgrounds. What was I thinking!?! I’m currently working on block 19 as of this blog entry. So if I can keep this pace up, hopefully I’ll get it finished in time.

In addition to this, the CMN baby afghan still needs to be sewn together. And I haven’t even started the Toys for Tots toys (two of them).

There’s a new charity class called “Caps for Comfort” with the donations going to the American Cancer Society. They offered two classes in the category — one to knit and the other to crochet. So I made one of each,

They were both finished in a couple of evenings and it was a nice break from the afghan.

These decorated flip flops will be judged on the first day of the Fair in the Special Events Dept. in the “Fair Foot Wear” category. I basically made these to get a free entry into the Fair on the first day. Then I can look around at all the crafts and check out how my other items did. 🙂

Now that these smaller items are finished, I’d better get back to making these fingers fly on those last two blocks.
