Finally! My New Door!

Hubby and I have lived in this house for going on 18 years. (It seems incredible when I put a big number to that statement — where does the time go?)

We’ve made a lot of changes to this house over the years and made this house “ours.” Some of the changes have been small things like getting storm windows put on all the windows and adding extra insulation to the attic. And some of the changes have been big expense items like adding on to our bedroom and my sewing room and putting a sunroom on the back of the house.

Ever since we’ve been living here, however, I’ve had to fight with the bedroom/sewing room closet door. The closet goes back beyond the door on one side, and it’s always been a hassle to get to the back of this closet. I’ve had to turn myself into a pretzel and struggle to get anything in or out of that area of the closet. And now that this room is my sewing room and I keep a lot of my supplies in this closet, I’m getting in there at least one or two times a day.

I’ve hated that tiny closet door for a LONG time. We found a guy that came out, gave us an estimate, and had it finished in one day! What in the world took me soooooo long to get this small project done!?!

Since the guy was going to have to cut six inches of sheet rock out of the wall, everything in the room would be covered with a thin layer of “dust.” My sewing room has been needing a good “spring cleaning” for a long time. Plus, I need to purge and get rid of some of this junk/pretties that I really don’t want anymore. The room is really cluttered.

So I removed everything from the walls and floor, and moved all the furniture as far into my “cockpit” (as Hubby calls it).

The stuff on the bed is from the closet because I had to move everything out of there as well. Then I put plastic on all of it to protect it from all the plaster dust.

We had to wait over the weekend for the guy to come and start on the door, so I got antsy and started stripping off the trim boards, etc.

Here’s what it looked like after the guy got the wall cut out. He didn’t even tear up my wallpaper! I was impressed.

Here’s what it looked like after he finished. I was going to do the painting on the trim. Here’s what it looked like after I got it painted.

I LOVE IT! It’s exactly like I imagined it to be!

The next day I put everything back into the closet.

Look how easy it’ll be to get to my supplies in the back of the closet now.

Here’s before,

and after,

Have I mentioned that I love it?!

Since the room was so torn up and needed a good cleaning, I decided to rearrange, clean everything up, and get rid of stuff that has outlived its usefulness to me. It was a lot of work, I spent several days on it, and now it’s all together again, and clean!

During all this mess, Sis came over for crafting on Thurs. as usual. She saw my new door, but hasn’t seen the room all put back together yet.

We painted on our tote bags again. She didn’t bring hers because she wasn’t finished with it, but I got her started on a couple more while she was here. I finished my froggie one,

Isn’t it cute? I think I’ll keep this one for me. (Have I mentioned that I’m a “bag lady” in disguise?)
